Cloves

Cloves are the dried immature flower bud of the clove tree from an evergreen also known as Syzygium Aromaticum.

Clove trees are native to Southeast Asia and can live to be over 150 years old.

They have a sweet aroma to them and is a traditional spice that has been used for food preservation and possesses various medicinal qualities.

Cloves can be found in both whole and ground forms.

Why cloves are beneficial

Clove oil has anesthetic and analgesic properties.

The main component in clove oil for pain relief is Eugenol.

Manganese is an essential mineral for maintaining brain function and building strong bones.

Clove oil is used in preventing gum disease, due to its antiseptic properties. It also can help prevent cavities and relieve oral pain.

Clove powder is used for deworming.

Cloves may help protect against cancer and reduce stomach ulcers.

Cloves are high in antioxidants. It is a compound that reduce oxidative stress, which can contribute to the development of chronic disease.

Clove oil is used for muscle pain, relieve respiratory conditions like cough and asthma.

Cloves contain fiber, vitamins, and minerals, so using whole or ground cloves to add flavor to your food can provide important nutrients.

Natural recipes using cloves:

Acne

Mix 1 tsp of powder with a Tbsp of honey and apply to affected areas.

Wipe off with a warm washcloth.

Mouthwash

Bring 1 cup of water with 1 tsp of cloves and 2 drops of peppermint oil to a boil.

Turn off heat and let sit for 10 minutes.

Strain into a bottle for use. Keep refrigerated.

Facial Toner

Mix 1 Tbsp of cloves, 2 drops of tea tree oil and 2/3 a cup of apple cider vinegar with 1/3 a cup of rose water in a jar.

Refrigerate one week, while shaking daily.

Mix 1 part mixture to 3 parts water and apply to face.

Air Freshener

Bring 3 cups of water, 5 cloves, and 2 peels from oranges.

Simmer half an hour. Let set till room temperature.

Pour in a jar and cover with a lid. Poke holes in the top to disperse the fragrance.
